Isn’t Fairfield looking stunning at the moment?

As I walk around our village I am in wonder at the beauty of our surroundings at this time of year; the wildflowers in the meadows, the blossom in the orchards, the wildlife all around – we are so lucky to live in such a special place!

This is probably the most demanding time in the garden – there are seedlings to transplant, seeds to sow direct, new plants to plant out, spring flowers to deadhead and cut back and, of course, hanging baskets, pots and borders to fill with annual planting. Remember to enter our Hanging Basket and Container competition (see below). All our efforts will be worth it and provide a lovely environment for us and the wildlife.

On the subject of the wildlife, it’s not only us gardeners who’ve been busy – we have woodpeckers, blue tits and blackbirds nesting in our garden at the moment. The bees are also getting busy, particularly enjoying our pulmonaria flowers.

Thanks to the efforts of our community volunteers, the planting at the Community Hall is coming along nicely, the Community Garden is looking amazing (see opposite), and the orchards are in bloom. If you would like to join the register to help with our community gardening efforts please contact me at gardening@fairfieldorganisations.org.uk

Keep gardening!
