I was born in Leicester in WW2, went to infant and junior school in London and then to Grammar School in Surrey. This was followed by a degree course in Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough. And from there to join the graduate training scheme at Tube Investments in Birmingham and where I worked at several steel making and hot rolling mills in the Black Country. This was followed by a change in career, moving to Leicester and new challenges in the textile manufacturing industry. Here I met my wife Janet, a textile and knitwear designer. And we have now been married for 50 years. After living for more than 30 years in Market Bosworth in Leicestershire we moved to Fairfield Park in 2015 to be closer to our daughter and her family who live in Hitchin.
