This month in 2013… Fairfield Youth Club opened its doors.

The youth club ran on a Friday evening, was open to children from school Year 5 upwards, and cost £1. There was a pool table, a Mac, organised sports and space to sit and chat, plus other organised activities from time to time – and a well-stocked tuck shop.

In summer time it sometimes spilled out onto the grass behind the Community Hall… but this wasn’t too popular with the neighbours.

Although it was generally well attended (sometimes too well attended) by children at the younger end of its target age bracket, the club struggled to attract older teens and more importantly had constant problems recruiting adult volunteers to help supervise. It lasted until summer 2018 before finally closing its doors for good – a run of just over five years.

The remains of the tuck shop were donated to the good people of Brunel Walk to hand out that Halloween!
