The speed limit on the Hitchin Road through Fairfield has recently been lowered from 40mph to 30mph to safeguard the new development and school, but vehicles still race along this road. The only safe way for children and parents to cross the road is on the ‘puffin’ crossings.

Speed Watch already oversees the 20mph limit on the residential streets of Fairfield, but until recently only within the confines of the built houses. Now, following an assessment for safety and suitability, our Speed Watch team has been authorised to deploy on the Hitchin Road.

With these added responsibilities Speed Watch is appealing for more volunteers. Training is provided by the police and takes two to three hours. If you would like to get involved and contribute to the safety of your community please contact enquiries@fairfieldparishcouncil.gov.uk.
