If you’re of state pension age or have certain disabilities or medical conditions you are probably already aware that you are eligible for a free bus pass. You may also be eligible for a companion pass, which allows a companion to travel with you for free if you are unable to use public transport alone.
What you may not know is that although these free passes are valid for travel on local buses anywhere in England outside of peak times, there is a morning peak period until 9.30am during which you are not allowed to travel beyond your own council boundaries. This is particularly relevant to us in Fairfield as, being close to the county border, many of us travel into Hertfordshire often. Buses in the direction of Letchworth and Hitchin, however, are only free to passholders after 9.30am.
To make obtaining a pass easier, Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) has just launched an online bus pass application process allowing residents of Central Bedfordshire to apply for passes and request replacements or renewals through the CBC website. You can still continue to apply by post if you wish.
We will post a link to the online application page on our website, or it can be located from the CBC homepage at http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk. If you need assistance with the form you can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0300 300 8308, or forms can be downloaded from the website and sent to Central Bedfordshire Bus Pass Applications, PO Box 212, Waterlooville, PO7 6ZN
