With just one shop servicing the whole of Fairfield, it has become clear during the last few months just how much we rely on our little Tesco Express. The staff’s incredible commitment to serving the community over the COVID-19 lockdown period – by remaining open, taking extra deliveries and shifts, staying positive and cheerful and keeping the people of Fairfield in groceries and essentials – has not gone unnoticed. One resident, Colin Edwards, decided to help us show our appreciation by setting up a crowd funding page to raise money for a staff bonus, with thanks from all of us.
He told FM: “I know there’ll probably be people who say what about the NHS, etc. I’m a key worker myself, and have been travelling into London for work. I just think these guys are unsung heroes – they work so hard and it’s meant we haven’t had to venture out of our estate for anything we need. They’ve been breaking up fights, shoplifters from out of the area, all sorts bless them. And they’re all brilliant.”
