Well, what a year it has been for Fairfield Bowls Club. No sooner were we gearing up for our Open Day, when WHAM, lockdown!! So no bowling except for ‘roll ups’.
In a way it has been fortunate for the Club as we have extensive works going on and it would have been difficult to try and play competitive bowls too.
The Club has been growing over the last few years and we have been desperately short of space. The decision was taken to build two cabins as changing rooms; the clubhouse is being revamped to allow more room and better catering facilities to give more capacity for social events. A Petanque piste is also being built. The majority of this work is being carried out by our members; the groundworks are being done by a local company.
We thank those organisations who have helped in the giving of a number of grants. Without their help, especially from Fairfield Parish Council, we would not have been able to go ahead.
We have been amazed at the number of new members who have joined us during lockdown; some of whom have been helping with the new build.
We are all looking forward to an exciting season in 2021 when we hope to gain more new members, not just from Fairfield but the surrounding areas. This is a very friendly, competitive club and one that we are very proud to be members of.
