Last month we shared the news that several Fairfield families planned to sponsor refugees from Ukraine, offering them a place to stay in their own homes. This month we are pleased to report that some of those Ukrainians have now made it to Fairfield – and even went along to the quiz night hosted by Fairfield Community Hall and Fairfield Park Lower School PTA to raise funds for the Save the Children Ukraine Fund. One quiz attendee sent us this report:
“It was so lovely to see the Fairfield Community Hall packed on Friday 22 April for the quiz night. Competition was fierce with 17 teams of eight answering ten challenging rounds of questions presented by Nick Andrews, our quiz master extraordinaire for the evening. If you know what a foggy bummer is, or the most popular toilet paper colour in France – you should have been there! If you don’t know and would like to, see below.
“The Fairfield Bowls team romped to victory, winning a bottle of the highly acclaimed Fairfield Cider each! A brilliant £1,244 was raised from ticket sales for the Save the Children Ukraine Fund – which, added to a further £517 raised on the night by the Bowls Club, the WI’s teas and coffees and other general donations, makes a grand total of £1,761.
“It was a lovely that we also got to welcome Fairfield’s first two Ukrainian guests to the quiz evening – they are being sponsored by a family in Fairfield and arrived recently.
“Many thanks to all the organisers for a most enjoyable evening – a fabulous community event.”
