It’s hard to believe that only three months had passed between the summer’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the announcement of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September.
On the first occasion, red, white and blue bunting seemed to cloak Fairfield. On the second, a few solitary union flags were brought back out in a mark of respect – including those pictured here flying at half mast. The comparison was sobering.
There were also flowers left on the mound in the Urban Park and a book of condolence in Fairfield Community Hall, but many residents made the trip to London to leave their flowers, cards and marmalade sandwiches there instead.
