The roadworks on Hitchin Road are a nuisance to residents and all local traffic, and seem to have been going on for ages. Recently the traffic lights at the roundabout with Eliot Way have been causing tremendous queues of cars and vans, especially after the introduction of a four-way light system. How much longer will it last?

The developers had permission from Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) to use the current four-way traffic lights until the end of March, and apparently there are plans to take them down before the Easter weekend – so by the time you read this they should have been removed.

However, there will be a two-way system running into June this year, and the even worse news is that further roadworks are planned for August or September.

We are all fed up, but spare a thought for those living on Hitchin Road, who have to live in the middle of the chaos!

If you have a problem with the way the roadworks are operating you should contact the CBC 24-hour Highways Helpdesk on 0300 300 8049 or report it on their website: http://www.cb-report-it.co.uk.

If the lights have failed or are not working correctly at any time please ring 07712 490137.
