CBC recently issued a notice via Fairfield Park Lower School asking parents dropping off and picking up children at school sites across the region not to leave their engines idling while they wait. Whilst air quality might not seem like a hot topic in semi-rural Fairfield, some parents have also raised concerns, particularly about Nickleby Way, where cars regularly keep their engines running and children are forced to stand in close proximity while they wait for the school doors to open.
It’s not the first time Fairfield’s air quality has been called into question. FM reported in April 2018 that unusually high levels of carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide had been detected on Dickens Boulevard while Anglian Water were testing for chemicals relating to ‘the stink’ – a strong suggestion that we really could do better in this respect.
