On Sunday 19 May, the day after the Fairfield Park Lower School run, a group of thirty or so residents met at the obelisk in Palmerston Way and walked to Etonbury Wood to join in the launch of the Etonbury Green Wheel walking and cycling route. Councillor Penny Daffarn, who has been a key member of the team behind the Etonbury Green Wheel, and organised the walking group from Fairfield, tells us more.

“We began by making an inaugural stroll through the new Fairfield Orchard Nature Trail, admiring the new benches and information boards, before setting off for Stotfold.

“Walkers from Stotfold and Arlesey, and our own group, converged on Etonbury Wood from different directions. The bananas kindly donated by our own Tesco kept us going on the way there.

“Bouncy castles and burgers at the Fox and Duck pub revived the tired legs, after which some children from each locality cut the (green!) ribbon and the Wheel was officially opened.”

If you would like to know more about the Etonbury Green Wheel, there are leaflets in Fairfield Community Hall, or they can be downloaded from the Central Bedfordshire Council website.
