Joining in with the national celebrations to commemorate HM Queen Elizabeth II’s incredible 70 years on the throne over a four-day weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, Fairfield will be hosting the following events:
Thursday 2 June, from 6pm – Market in the Urban Park
Similar to the Community Market last month, residents who have businesses and groups and clubs operating in Fairfield will be invited to show their wares and demonstrate their activities. The market will run in the evening this time and hopefully better weather will bring out even more residents to share in the fun ahead of the beacon lighting.
Thursday 2 June, 9pm – Torchlight parade and beacon lighting in the Urban Park
At around 9pm our Fairfield beacon will be lit – one of more than 1,500 throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and Commonwealth – in recognition of the Queen’s long and selfless service.
Friday 3 June, afternoon/evening – Film screenings on the cricket pitch
There will be three free outdoor cinema shows:
- An afternoon showing of the Disney film Moana
- An early evening showing of Back To The Future
- An evening feature of Mamma Mia!
Bring your own chairs and/or blankets to sit on, but please be considerate and do not block others’ view. Some of our familiar local food vendors will be in attendance, or you can bring your own picnic if you prefer.
There are no Fairfield-wide events on Saturday and Sunday, but neighbours are encouraged to get together and organize their own local street parties on these days.
