A consultation on future changes
Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) launched a consultation this month over proposed changes to school admissions arrangements for all Community and Voluntary Controlled schools (of which Fairfield Park Lower School is one) from September 2020.
The consultation proposes to add two additional groups to schools’ oversubscription criteria (making it easier for them to gain admission). These groups are children who have been adopted from state care outside of England, and children of staff. In the case of children of staff, these will still be given lower priority than children living in the catchment area or those with siblings at the school, so teachers’ children will not be taking precedence over local children. The move is proposed as an incentive to help the schools attract and retain high quality staff.
You can have your say online at http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/consultations until 5pm on 29 January 2019.
A reminder for this year’s applicants
Parents with children who will be starting school or moving to middle school in September 2019 are reminded that the national deadline for applications is 15 January.
Parents of children due to start middle school are also reminded that there are two separate application systems, one for Pix Brook and one for all other schools. It is possible (and recommended) to fill out both applications.
Applications can be completed online at http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/school/admissions/landing.aspx
