A solemn and respectful Remembrance Service was attended by a large cross section of the Fairfield community on 14 November. There were hymns, prayers and readings by residents including Mrs Suki Barhey, who spoke on behalf of the Fairfield Sikh Community. She described the Sikhs’ contribution to the British Army and spoke of Captain Ishar Singh, the first Sikh soldier to win the Victoria Cross.
The uniformed groups at Fairfield presented their colours, and wreaths were laid on behalf of Central Bedfordshire Council, Fairfield Parish Council, the Fairfield management companies, Fairfield Community Church, Fairfield Bowls Club, Fairfield WI and the Fairfield Scouts. After this everyone was invited to come forward to lay their own poppies on the ground and pause to remember those who have served their country with their life. A collection for The Royal British Legion was held before and during the service
