The first of several community Christmas events this year was the Christmas tree switch on (header image), which took place on 28 November. Fairfield Parish Council Chairman Nick Andrews led the countdown – and it ended not only with a lit tree but a well-timed flurry of snow which continued right through the performance by Variety Express. There was then a display by Fairfield’s Flow Arts group, and refreshments served by the Women’s Institute and Fairfield Bowls Club.

Rain did not stop play at a further carol singing event on 11 December, which was also surprisingly well attended given the inclement weather – it was led by Neil Whitmill, former minister of Fairfield Community Church, and Pauline Wade, and again accompanied by hot chocolate and mulled wine to keep the cold out. Fairfield Community Church also held an outdoor Christingle trail the following day. This was followed by a (sold out) children’s Christmas show on 20 December in the Community Hall, and some residents have even took part in a family-friendly fancy dress run for Boxing Day, starting by the big tree (where else?).
